Coastal city south of Lisbon where dolphin watching in the Sado Estuary costs a fraction of Atlantic boat tours elsewhere. The wild beaches of Arrabida Natural Park are reachable by local bus, and fresh seafood at the Livramento Market is priced for locals, not tourists. Wandering the working harbour and market quarter costs nothing, and it makes an easy budget day trip from the capital. Late spring and early autumn bring warm water and far fewer crowds than the Algarve.

Fort of Sao Filipe
