A sherry town at the mouth of the Guadalquivir where Magellan departed on the first circumnavigation of the globe. Most of the appeal costs nothing: wandering the old town below the Castle of Santiago, watching the river meet the Atlantic, and walking the long beach that faces the Donana wetlands across the water. Manzanilla, the local sherry, is cheap by the glass in the bars around the Plaza del Cabildo. It pairs well with the sherry-country towns of Jerez de la Frontera and Cadiz, with Seville a short trip inland.
