Palma de Mallorca’s Gothic cathedral, free-to-explore old town, and seafront promenade show a city far more sophisticated than its package-holiday reputation suggests. Wandering the lanes around La Seu and along the waterfront costs nothing, and budget flights make it one of the cheapest Mediterranean getaways to reach. Ibiza Town on neighboring Ibiza is the obvious next Balearic stop. Coming in spring or autumn means cheaper rooms and a calmer old town than the packed summer months.
