Larnaca is a relaxed coastal city and, with the island’s main airport on its doorstep, usually the cheapest way into Cyprus. Strolling the palm-lined Finikoudes promenade and the town beach costs nothing, and the seafront tavernas keep meals affordable by Mediterranean standards. Spring and autumn are the smart shoulder seasons here: warm enough for the coast, without the peak-summer prices.

Hala Sultan Tekke
An important Islamic shrine on the shore of the salt lake, built around the tomb of Umm Haram. Free to enter and set in a peaceful garden with palm trees and lake views.
Larnaca Fort
A small medieval fort at the end of the beach promenade, housing a modest museum and offering rooftop views over the seafront. Entry is very cheap and the shaded courtyard is a pleasant rest stop.
Larnaca Salt Lake
A network of salt lakes on the edge of the city that fill with flamingos from November to March. Free to visit with a walking and cycling path around the shoreline.
